My very own carport design

carports TamworthThe weather here in Tamworth is usually rather lovely. I remember our visit down to Melbourne one Christmas to visit my wife’s family, and right in the middle of summer, it actually hailed. All the car windshields got smashed. I was gobsmacked. But of course the Melbourne folk were like, “typical” and shrugged it off. However, we had a very odd spell of weather just last month here in Tamworth. It never gets very cold here or windy but we had a huge storm and our cars got damaged by hail stones as large and fast as bullets. That’s when we decided it was time to look into carports. Near Tamworth, there’s a couple of construction companies that can custom make your garages. So we’re going to get one of them in. But first I need to think of our design and requirements.

It’s a bit like fulfilling a childhood dream for me. Before I dropped out of school and took up a trade, I actually wanted to be an architect. Original right? I know that drawing up a shed for the cars is not the same thing as architecture which involves serious design skills and maths and all that, but it’s my humble shot at getting as close to the real thing as I can. Maybe I can come up with an interesting way to angle the carport roof.

The company also does commercial sheds in Tamworth. So I’m going to keep them in mind when we expand our business. I’m a tree doctor by trade, so we have some large vehicles that we use for transporting our equipment and also the felled trees and branches that needs to be disposed of. We try to pulverise it is not mulch and give away as much as possible because people like to use it for their gardens, but we can never get rid of all of it.
