Smitten over snapper racks

There’s only so much you can watch a mate go through before you feel like staging some kind of…intervention. I dunno, Alan seems happy sometimes, but he’s not really gonna be happy when his new girlfriend finds out that he’s been lying to her the whole time. Doesn’t he know anything? Women always find out this stuff. I mean, was he planning on getting married and starting a family on the basis that they’re both super into stainless steel snapper racks? I mean is he hoping she’ll just forgive him? It’s crazy, all of it. They’re both mad keen in to fishing, not sure if it’s enough to base a relationship on.

So yeah, we’re planning an intervention. All of the guys who work at the bait shop agree, this has to stop. We can see it all, because she’s always hanging around the shop. There’s a scrap heap just over the fence, and that’s where she does most of her scrounging. She’ll bring in some bit of metal, or maybe the remains of a rusted bow rails, and we get to watch Alan pretend that he’s really totally into it all and he’d totally be out there digging through the scrap, if only he didn’t have work.

We’ve noticed that he’s been working really, really late. Like, sometimes close to midnight, judging by when he clocks out. This relationship is ruining his life. I mean…she seems kind of normal, this girl. A bit erratic but otherwise nice. Just came in one day and wanted to find out what was wrong with her boat engine.

It was making some sound, and Alan was the one who worked on it and then they were having dinner. They got to talking about stainless steel marine fabrication companies in Melbourne. He didn’t ask her out, he is hopeless. it’s time to get involved. For the sake of his sanity, and ours.
