Small Horse Party

birthday party venueWhat happened to the good old days when kids picked a fad, stayed with it for maybe a year and then moved on? My son has been obsessed with My Small Horse for a good few years now, and there’s no sign that he’s getting tired of it, despite all my best efforts. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t like how pink everything is. That, and all the weird older fans he talks to online.

And now he wants a whole birthday party based around the show. Ah well…I draw the line at inviting any of his internet friends, but I suppose I can work with it. It’s not exactly a difficult theme. I just have to find a childrens birthday party venue in Melbourne that’ll be okay with me sticking up pictures of horses everywhere, stringing up banners, looping the theme song repeatedly throughout the entire party…that last one is part of a cunning plot, by me. If my son eventually grows to hate the song, he’ll grow to hate it whenever he watches the show, which will hopefully spread to his love of the show and corrupt it into the same brand of annoyance, which will cause him to seek out something else! Something better! Something where he isn’t sneaking into the study at 3 am to talk to his odd, much older internet friends.

Okay, maybe that’d be going a bit far. It doesn’t matter, because it’s going to be a great ice skating birthday party. Because I’m a great parent, and I respect my child’s wishes even if I think it’s taking them down a dark path from which there is no return. So yeah, fun party! I even did a bit of research around the area, figured out the nicest party venues instead of just picking at random. I’ve already tried to sway my son to something more fun, like an ice skating party! He just said that he absolutely hated it when I took him for those ice skating lessons, and none of the small horsies ever go ice skating so it’s not for him. They go on mountain climbing adventures and into space. What do I have to do to snap this boy out of it?
